The Porn Star Speaks
Several years ago, I - along with a few other performers - spoke at a class on pornography at The University of California, Irvine. When the course ended, several students came forward to introduce themselves.
One of them was Sean-Patrick Doan.
I've interacted with Doan several times since through various social networking applications. We remain friends on Facebook.
Recently, he linked me to an academic essay he'd written on the topic of female porn stars, their portrayal on network television, and their current ability to "speak back" through avenues such as social networking.
I find the topic fascinating and the essay very well-written. So I'd love to share it with you.
Please read Doan's essay, The Porn Star Speaks: The Representation of Adult Actresses on Television.
Sean-Patrick Doan is in his second year at California State University, Fullerton working towards a M.A. degree in American Studies. He completed his B.A. in Anthropology with a minor in Women's Studies from the University of California, Irvine. He plans to pursue his PhD in a couple years in Visual or American Studies and is interested in semiotics, feminisms of color, pop culture, gossip, fantasy & realness, surveillance, pornography, suburbia, and narcissism. He works at Yard House and likes to freelance model and online games.
